Attention drivers: It's back to school time

From the Cd'A Fire Department:

The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department is reminding drivers to watch for children as they return to school Tuesday.

The Department will stage at or near all Coeur d’Alene elementary schools Tuesday to provide added awareness. Emergency vehicle lights will be on to warn drivers to slow down in the area. Department personnel will also assist children and parents with crossing the busy streets.

The city's Police Department CARE (Traffic team) and school resource officers will be out in force with a traffic emphasis starting the first day of school and continuing throughout the week. Officers will patrol school zone areas, while the Fire Department helps children navigate their way across the marked crosswalks.

Officers plan to enforce zero tolerance for moving violations as well as failure to stop at crosswalks. Fines for speed violations are $156.50 due to larger penalties in a school zone.

Drivers are asked to use caution on roadways and in neighborhoods and anticipate children at crosswalks as they walk to and from school.

Thank you for helping keep our children safe this year!
