Officers Earn Certifications

Officers Nick Knoll and Josh Schneider recently completed a 120 hour Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) course. Their training consisted of spending two weeks at Peace Officers Standards and Training Academny (POST) in Meridian, Idaho going through classroom training that included human physiology, vital signs, standardized field sobriety tests, as well as extensively covering the 7 categories of drugs and their effects. Their training also consisted of completing a week long certification phase in Seattle by performing DRE examinations on multiple people who were contacted and under the influence of one or more drugs. Officer Schneider also received recognition as “Top Student” during the two week training phase at POST. Officers Schneider and Knoll now join Officers Pat Sullivan and Tim Hanna as Drug Recognition Experts for the Police Department. The DRE’s can assist in evaluating drivers who operated vehicles under the influence of drugs, which may otherwise be difficult to prove or prosecute.
