Tubbs Hill Fires

The Coeur d’Alene Fire and Police Department worked together this week to locate and identify a person reportedly setting fires on Tubbs Hill over the weekend. The citizen who reported this incident gave a detailed description of the person setting the fires. This description also matched a description of a person setting multiple fires last summer on Tubbs Hill.

Earlier today, a 45 year old male (homeless person) matching this description was contacted and interviewed by fire investigators. The person of interest in this series of Tubbs Hill fires cooperated fully with investigators and admitted to setting 20-25 small “smudging” fires on the trails and/or beaches on Tubbs Hill since last summer. This person claimed he did not know it was unlawful to have open fires on Tubbs Hill. He will be charged with a misdemeanor offense of burning on public property. None of these fires caused any damage to city-owned property. For additional information contact: Deputy Chief Glenn Lauper at 769-2340.
