Coeur d’Alene Police responded to Kootenai Medical Center for the initial report of an accident in the parking lot. Officers quickly determined that no accident had occurred, rather a male suspect by the name of Richard Lloyd Vivian, 50 years of age, of Coeur d’Alene, had intentionally rammed a vehicle.
Witnesses at the scene stated that Vivian had pulled into the parking lot and was waiting for a vehicle to exit a handicapped spot. When the vehicle exited, another vehicle pulled into it before Vivian was able to. That driver exited his vehicle and walked toward the hospital entrance.
Vivian rammed that vehicle with his Jeep SUV. The force of that action propelled the victim vehicle into another parked car. Witnesses said Vivian quickly backed his vehicle up and nearly struck a pedestrian in the parking lot.
No injuries were reported. Two of the three vehicles involved were unoccupied. The total vehicle damages are estimated at approximately $2000.
Vivian exited his vehicle and was standing near it when officers arrived. Vivian indicated to officers that he felt the parking spot was his. He was arrested for aggravated assault and transported to the jail.
